Does an America Centric Web Benefit us?
In other words is Amercia the land which tests out what is feasible for the rest of us?
Here’s the idea – there are probably more Internet startups and services in the USA than anywhere else in the English speaking world and of course all the biggest and most famous web sites and web influencers are based in the States. One natural side effect of this is that a great many services start in US only mode.
That often causes claims of foul or unfair play from a great many people on the UK side of the pond.
I wonder though if things coming out first in the US is a bad thing.
After all the US has a decent sized population and not the greatest connectivity for broadband in the world. To me that says if something is going to go wrong it will when it gets rolled out in the US first.
In other words a good many things may be available in the US first, but they are in effect using the US population as guinea pigs. In theory by the time something goes multinational or global its in a much better state of readiness than during its USA only early days.
Is a 21st century description for the USA – The land of the Beta ?
